Fitbit Text Messages: Receive and Respond to Texts on Fitbit!

Like you, I was used to getting text messages on my phone. This changed when I got a Fitbit Sense and realized I could get text messages and respond to them right from my wrist.

So, if you wonder whether Fitbit can receive and respond to texts the answer is yes! Once set up for messages, Fitbit can get text messages and respond to them from the wrist.

This guide is designed to help you set up and use messaging on Fitbit. You’ll find everything you need to know about receiving and sending text messages, as well as which Fitbit watch models support the feature.

How Does Messaging on Fitbit Work?

Even though Fitbit watches can receive messages, their messaging functionality is limited.

Fitbit Watches don’t have a dedicated keyboard so, users can’t type messages on them. For now, Fitbit users can only send messages directly from the watch using quick replies or emojis.

In contrast, newer models such as the Fitbit Versa 4, Sense, Charge 5, Charge 4, Versa 2, Versa 3, and Sense 2 support audio replies. This means the user can tap on the microphone icon and record a message instead of typing it out.

If you need an option that will allow you to type your texts, consider a Wear OS device, such as the Google Pixels.

How to Get Text Messages on Fitbit

Starting a message on a Fitbit Watch is not possible as messaging relies on notifications. Simply, you only reply to a text (quick response) when you get a message notification prompt.

Notifications need to be enabled from the Fitbit app to get texts on Fitbit. Here’s how you’ll turn on notifications on Fitbit to start getting texts.

How to Turn On Notifications on Fitbit

Step 1: Tap to open the Fitbit app on your paired phone.

Step 2: Tap on your profile picture to open the account settings page.

Step 3: Tap on the image of your Fitbit.

Step 4: Tap on Notifications.

Step 5: Select Text Message to receive its notifications on the watch. You can also add more apps you want to get notifications from.

By enabling notifications on your Fitbit, you will get new text message notifications and can send quick responses from your watch.

However, only apps, such as Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Slack, Twitter, and Google Messages, support quick replies from Fitbit.

Apps that don’t support quick replies from Fitbit will still give you the option to open them on your phone through your Fitbit device – just tap on the Open button.

Which Fitbit Watch Models Support Text Messages?

It’s important to note that not all Fitbit watches are capable of receiving and sending messages. To ensure that you can use this feature, it’s recommended that you opt for the latest models that come with a display rather than older models or models without a display.

Fitbit Not Receiving Text Messages? Here’s How You Can Fix the Problem!

Even after setting up your Fitbit for text messages, it may fail to receive messages and send quick replies. The following are ways to fix a Fitbit that won’t receive texts.

  1. If you are getting messages but your Fitbit is not displaying check the Do Not Disturb Mode and Sleep Mode. Do Not Disturb and Sleep Mode will silence notifications so if they are on turn them off.
  2. Go to Settings on your phone, tap on Apps, select Fitbit, switch off  Allow Notifications, and then switch Allow Notifications back on.
  3. If none of the troubleshooting ideas work, try to update the Fitbit app if there’s an update. Alternatively, try to uninstall and reinstall the Fitbit app on your phone.
