Fitbit Tips and Tricks (The Top 15!)

In today’s post, I will share tips and tricks to help you get the most out of your Fitbit smartwatch or activity tracker. Without wasting time, here are the 15 easy tips and tricks for Fitbit Inspire 3, Versa 4, Sense 2, Charge 4, and Charge 5.

15 Fitbit Tips and Tricks

1. Use Your Fitbit to Control Music

With a Fitbit smartwatch like Versa and Sense, you don’t have to remove your phone from the pocket to pause, play, skip, or repeat a song.

You can simply connect your Fitbit to the phone through Bluetooth and control the songs playing on your paired phone.

To start controlling the music playing on your phone from Fitbit you need to turn on the music control feature on Fitbit.

You can access and turn on this feature and go to your watch’s settings. Don’t forget to make your Fitbit watch the audio source as you do the setup.

2. Charge Fitbit Without the Wall Charger

You don’t always have to be around home to charge your Fitbit Charge, Luxe, Inspire, Versa, or Sense with the wall charger or computer.

You can use a power bank (buy or borrow one if you don’t have one) to power your Fitbit smartwatch or activity tracker when it runs out of charge.

Even though this trick works I wouldn’t consider it over the normal way of charging Fitbit because it takes long. Here is how you can charge Fitbit in less than hours with the wall charger!

3. Wear Fitbit on Your Ankle

We are all used to wearing Fitbit on the wrist, how about you try it on the ankle instead? Yes, Fitbit smartwatches and activity trackers can be worn on the ankle.

When Fitbit is worn on the ankle steps, distance traveled, and pace are tracked accurately. What I don’t like about this idea is that you miss or get inaccurate SpO2 and heart rate data.

Also, in case you slept with the watch on the ankle, you would get inaccurate sleep reports. I support wearing the watch on the ankle only when tracking steps.

For the rest of the activities, I prefer the watch to be on the wrist for accurate reports. Here are other ways you can wear Fitbit.

4. Make Your Fitbit Look New

Did you know the Fitbit Watch can be cleaned using water? One of the best ways to clean Fitbit is by using fresh water and a soap-free cleanser like Cetaphil. This combination will make your Fitbit look new.

To clean the charging contacts at the back of the watch use a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol. In addition, after cleaning your Fitbit, you can minimize your chances of getting skin irritations by not using sunscreens and insect-repellent sprays.

5. Use Do Not Disturb (DND) to Stay Focused

To get things done right you need to stay focused. Fortunately, on Fitbit, you will get the DND mode. DND on Fitbit stands Do Not Disturb and silences every sound and vibration your watch makes when a notification is received.

To turn on the Do Not Disturb feature for maximum concentration follow the steps below:

  1. Go to settings on your Fitbit smartwatch or activity tracker.
  2. Find the DND (“Do Not Disturb”) icon and tap on it to activate.

In case you don’t know what the DND icon looks like, it is a small circle icon with a tiny line at the center.

6. Use Water Lock to Prevent Fitbit from Registering Taps while in Water

Another Fitbit feature that falls on our list of tips and tricks is the water lock mode. With this mode active, you can stop the screen and buttons from tapping and pressing respectively.

I would recommend you turn the feature on before entering the swimming pool or shower. Turning on the water lock on Fitbit is straightforward. Here are 2 easy steps to help you turn on/off the water lock mode on Fitbit:

  1. Swipe down from the main screen to open the quick panel.
  2. Find the Water Lock icon on the panel, tap on it and it will be activated.

After you are done swimming or taking a shower, turn off the water lock by double-tapping the center of the device screen.

Don’t know what Water Lock on Fitbit looks like? It is the icon with a water drop symbol.

7. Never Wake Up Late; Use the Alarm on Fitbit

Getting up late will mean you will get to school or work late. With a Fitbit watch, you can avoid that! You just need to set a wake-up alarm and when the time is reached Fitbit will gently vibrate on the wrist to wake you up.

In case you don’t know how to set up an alarm on Fitbit follow the simple steps provided below:

  1. Open the Fitbit app on your paired phone.
  2. Tap on the “Account” icon.

  7. Select the days of the week you want the alarm to go off.
  8. Tap on the type of alarm you prefer; you can opt for sounds, vibration, or even both.
  9. Tap “Save” to save the new alarm.

That’s it! When the time set is reached Fitbit will now go off to remind you it’s time and will be with sounds or vibrations depending on your settings.

8. Get a Different Band for Your Fitbit

You can always get a new band to replace the armband that keeps detaching from the Fitbit body.

But how do you replace old bands on Fitbit? Replacing the band on a Fitbit is simple, follow the simple steps provided below:

Open the Fitbit app. On the today tab scroll to the sleep section. From here you will see your sleep history. A graph representing your sleep will show if you tap on a particular day’s sleep report.

13. Add Lock Screen Passcode

Anyone including your kid can access your data on Fitbit if you don’t set up a security lock. You need to set up a PIN code that will secure your Fitbit and the information it carries.
