Water Lock on Fitbit (Everything There’s to Know!)

Learn how to activate and deactivate water lock on your Fitbit watch with this guide. It provides essential information on this feature that you need to know!

I wear my Fitbit Charge 5 all the time, even when I’m in the shower or swimming pool once a week. This is because the smartwatch is water resistant, with a rating of 5ATM. So, it’s safe to have it in water, just like any other Fitbit.

It’s important to be aware that water on a touchscreen display can lead to accidental taps and touches. This includes the display on my Fitbit Charge 5 watch.

However, there is a water lock feature that prevents the device from registering unwanted taps while in water.

So, you can relax and not worry about any water drops causing issues with your Fitbit. But what is water lock and is it available on every Fitbit watch model?

What is Water Lock and is it Available on All Fitbit Watches?

Fitbit smartwatches and activity trackers come with a water lock feature that prevents the screen from responding to taps and touches when in contact with water. This feature is available on several Fitbit models, including the Sense, Versa, Charge, Luxe, and Inspire Series.

To assist you in using the water lock feature on your Fitbit, I will provide instructions on how to activate and deactivate it on different Fitbit smartwatches and activity trackers. This will give you the confidence to use your device during water-based activities without any concerns about taps.

Fitbit Activates Water Lock When Not in Water (Fix for Charge, Ace, Versa, Sense, and Inspire!)

If you own a Fitbit Versa, Charge, Ace, Sense, Inspire, or Luxe, you might have experienced the water lock feature activating unexpectedly, even when you’re not in water. However, there are some tips available that could help stop this issue.

1. Your Fitbit Has a System Glitch

A system glitch or error might be the other reason your Fitbit activates water lock when not in water. To fix the problem restart your Fitbit to clear the glitch. To restart Fitbit:

  1. Wake up the screen of your Fitbit device.
  2. Open the quick control panel, the find Settings option and tap on it.
  3. Swipe down under the settings option to find the Restart Device option and tap on it.
  4. Tap the Restart option to confirm you want to restart the device.

2. Update Your Fitbit Device

It is important to regularly update the software on your Fitbit Charge Versa, Sense, Luxe, Ace, or Inspire because failure to do so may cause water lock to activate even when you are not in water. To prevent this, make sure to download and install any available updates for your device. To update any Fitbit Watch follow these steps:

  1. Open the Fitbit App on your phone.
  2. Tap the Today tab.
  3. Tap the profile icon then the Device Image.
  4. You should see the pink update button if an update is available.
